Within Prairie City’s 1.2 square miles, the city’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation Department operate and maintain four public parks plus numerous ball diamonds and courts, including two regulation tennis courts that are lighted for nighttime use. Recreational spaces include:
Entryway Park
Location: Off the Highway 163 exit
Amenities: Bison sculpture, native prairie, rain garden, walking paths, picnic tables, and restrooms
Garden Square (Hosts the annual Prairie Days Celebration)
Location: Downtown
Amenities: Bandstand, veteran’s memorial, picnic tables, and benches
Community Park
Location: Intersection of S. State Street and E. Second Street
Amenities: Playground, disc golf, Community Building, and two open shelters
Prairie City Recreational Complex
Location: Southwest edge of town on W. Ashtyn Lane
Amenities: Playground, four baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, one-mile walking trail/bike path, and fishing pond

- Shelters: $15/day
- Community Building: $100/day (kitchen included) or $75 (kitchen not included), plus a refundable $50 deposit

Recreational Opportunities
Prairie City sponsors many programs and events throughout the year to encourage residents to get outside, stay active, and take advantage of the resources available to them within Prairie City. These include:
- Summer Recreational Program for local children
- Swim bus to transport kids from Prairie City to the Colfax Pool
- Softball League
- Tennis League
- Kickball Tournament
- Prairie Days Fun Run
- Public Paddle Nights at the Recreational Complex
- Family Fishing Fun Night at the Recreational Complex
