Public Works hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Public Works department can be contacted through City Hall at 515-994-2649. For afterhours and/or weekend emergencies you can reach the on-call staff at 515-672-5439.
For resident’s convenience, the city offers a variety of different methods to pay utility accounts:
- AutoPay (deducted from residents checking account)
- Online bill pay (GovPayNet link on city homepage)
- Auto pay with your personal bank (bank will send a check to the city)
- Cash, check, and card payments are also accepted at City Hall
Prairie City’s Public Works Department maintains the integrity and overall appearance of city-owned properties and works to ensure that the city’s existing infrastructure functions safely and smoothly.
Public Works employees are trained and certified to work on water, wastewater, street maintenance, and lawn maintenance, and they strive to keep our facilities up to date and operational. They run water and wastewater tests, reports as required, and canvas the community reading water meters the last few days of each month..
