Fire Chief: Ryan Van Der Kamp
With the help of approximately 20 volunteers, Prairie City’s fire department provides around-the-clock fire and rescue services to the community and surrounding areas. Volunteers are Firefighter One and CPR certified.
The fire station is located adjacent to City Hall and is equipped with three pumper trucks and a grass attack truck. As a public service, the department responds to emergencies free of charge. In addition to these services, the fire department provides fire safety education for children through the local preschool, youth organizations, and the Prairie Days celebration.
Anyone is eligible to volunteer for the fire department. Applications are available here or at City Hall. Once accepted, the applicant will be required to complete the necessary training.
