Public Works hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Public Works department can be contacted through City Hall at 515-994-2649. For afterhours and/or weekend emergencies you can reach the on-call staff at 515-782-7614.
Prairie City’s Public Works Department maintains the integrity and overall appearance of city-owned properties and works to ensure that the city’s existing infrastructure functions safely and smoothly.
Public Works employees are trained and certified to work on water, wastewater, street maintenance, and lawn maintenance and strive to keep our facilities up to date and operational. They run water and wastewater tests and reports as required and canvas the community reading water meters the last few days of each month.
A number of Public Works projects are planned in the city. The city administrator and the public works staff have collaborated on a list which identifies the projects and tentative starting dates, all subject to change as needed.
